When doing my disc brake & 5 lug rear end conversion, I wanted to find some cheap 5 lug wheels. The plan was to use the dog dish caps that came with the car and at a later date, if so desired, buy some rims. After some online research, I was told to look for some 1978-1988 G Body wheels. The G-body cars include the:

  • Buick Regal/Grand National/GNX
  • Chevrolet Monte Carlo
  • Chevrolet El Camino
  • Chevrolet Malibu
  • GMC Caballero
  • Oldsmobile Cutlass (Supreme/Calais/Cruiser/Salon)
  • Pontiac Grand Prix
  • Pontiac Bonneville.

I ended up finding some 15x7 wheels (4.25" backspacing) from a G Body, and 14x6 wheels (3.5" backspacing) from an S-10 (unsure of the year). Unfortunately the backspacing on the 15x7s wasn't quite enough to work with my tires (should have measured for clearance before buying the tires). To fix the problem, I had a wheel shop cut out the chevy centers and weld them onto new 'hoops.' Total cost for this, including the purchase of the 5 wheels (1 spare) was about $100. Here's the end result:
