1963 Chevy II Nova 292 Conversion

03.20.10 - I'm finally pushing forward with the 292 install. I am hoping to have the car back on the road by May 1st.

04.25.10 - Update: As the result of several unforseen problems, the new goal is to have the car back on the road by May 22nd.

04.19.10 - 04.25.10~ two steps forward, three steps back...
Nova Grill Headlights bumper removal
  • Found Problems:
    • need new flexpalte
    • oil pan doesn't clear steering linkage/drag link
    • harmonic balancer, water pulley, alternator pulley alignment
  • Temporarily Installed:
    • 292 Block
    • Core Support
  • Fabricated Fuel Pump Bracket
  • Removed Old Fuel Lines
  • Ordered Misc Items:
    • Flexplate and flexplate bolts, carb spacer, throttle return springs

04.13.10 - 04.18.10~ Some progress...

    • battery tray
    • engine mounts
  • Prepped & Painted:
    • Engine Bay Final Coat
    • wiper motor
    • starter
  • Trunk pan - rust converter, painted and bedlined
  • Oiling System
    • Finished modifying Pickup Support
    • Finished modifying oil pan
    • Purchased new oil pump and welded it to oil pickup tube
    • Installed oil pan, pump, and gasket
  • Fuel System
    • Installed Gas Tank and new Fuel Pickup

  • Modified Oil Pickup Support
  • Purchased oil pan gasket

04.07.10 ~ More diassembly

    • intake & exhaust manifolds
    • battery & tray
    • wiring harnesses
    • starter
    • distrubutor & coil
  • Labeled wiring harnesses
  • Measured hood clearance

04.06.10 ~ Front end diassembly

  • Pulled most of the front end components off of the front of the car, including:
    • grill
    • headlights
    • bumper
    • turn signals
    • horn
    • front bumper
  • worked on oil pan

04.04.10 ~ Gas tank and 250 Oil Pan
  • Put last coat of semi-gloss black rustoleum on the new gas tank.
  • Removed old gas tank from the car.
  • Decided to spend more time on the oil pan. Cleaned up old work and re-welded seams. Finished welding part of the job.

03.28.10 - 04.03.10 ~ Gas tank and garage prep
 
  • Prepped new gas tank for paint
  • Sprayed two coats of rustoleum flat black on gas tank
  • Cleaned garage to make room for engine swap

03.13.10 - 03.19.10 ~ Trying to figure out Carb Linkage
 
  • Instructions with kit were very poor.
  • Threads on Offy Intake were messed up - needed to use tap & die set

01.03.10 - 01.09.10 ~ Rear tire clearance issues
 
  • Used 2 x 4 and sledge hammer to take care of rubbing issues for the rear tires.
    • with no passengers, no air is needed in air shocks
    • with passenger, no rubbing if I raise rear end about 1 inch
